What does the R Street Shelter do?
- Showcases rescue and shelter pets so more people will want to adopt. We make adoption sexy.
- Provides concierge adoption services in an elite retail space, making adoption an “experience”.
- Hosts community events to raise funds that will be awarded to area animal shelters and rescue organizations so they can continue to save lives.
- Operate youth empowerment camps to support the future pet owners of our community.
Board of Directors
Gina Barbato-Knepp – President/Co-Founder
Gina is the National Shelter Engagement Director for the Michelson Found Animals Foundation. Her primary focus is increasing the country’s return to owner rate (getting lost pets back home where they belong) by engaging shelters across the nation in finding innovative ways of locating missing pet people. Gina’s background includes managing the Front Street Animal Shelter in Sacramento, California. Her experience leading a municipal, open intake, high volume shelter brings with it an intimate understanding of the challenges faced by animal shelter personnel. Previously, she managed high volume call centers, to include 911 and 311. Her role with the R Street Shelter is to provide guidance and oversight, in order to raise funds that can be shared with animals shelters and rescue groups across the region so that lifesaving can be achieved by all in our community.
Zayn Silmi – Vice President/Co-Founder
As a lover of Sacramento and the people Zayn Silmi is a community oriented individual that lives to empower others to succeed. At an early age Zayn discovered his love for community and making a positive impact in the lives of those around him. As the founder of The People Of Sacramento & other local businesses he aims to continue to be an ambassador for the Sacramento region of what is possible.
Alyssa Huskinson – Chief Development Officer
Alyssa Huskinson is a lover of all things Sacramento – an animal advocate, self-proclaimed foodie, travel addict, and a wannabe stay-at-home dog mom to two boys: Jesse James and Hunter S. Her passion and vision began when she was looking for new and creative ways to fundraise and bring together the community – who she found were individuals who wanted to make a difference like she did, because “everyday is your chance to make this city a little better” (Alex Trujillo). Her priority is to make sure the People of Sacramento continue to grow and make an impact. When she’s not fundraising you can find her at a local coffee shop, at spin with her girls, or in search of the best taco.
Chady Dunmore – Board Member
Padi Goodspeed – Board Member
Padi started her career in the mortgage industry 16+ years ago and quickly became a top producer. Her motto is “my purpose is service”. Her goal is to provide sustainable financing for successful homeownership.
Having a deep rooted faith, she believes in providing high quality service. Her passion for problem solving and making people smile helped her fall in love with mortgage lending.
Her focus is to study guidelines, master the niche products and provide solutions quickly for every loan scenario. She is an expert on multiple products, loves to work with investors and specializes in jumbo products.
Alison Cameron – Board Member
Josh Escovedo – Board Member
Josh Escovedo is an intellectual property and litigation attorney at Weintraub Tobin Law Corporation in Sacramento, California. Josh earned his juris doctorate at the UCLA School of Law and moved to Sacramento shortly thereafter. Josh now resides in East Sacramento with his fiancé Gianna and his best friend Kylo the mini-husky.
Since moving to Sacramento, Josh has been extensively involved with the Front Street Animal Shelter, and has served on the board of directors for the affiliated non-profit, Friends of Front Street Shelter. Josh has also been involved with the local chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Robert Irvine Foundation. As an animal welfare and animal rights advocate, Josh seeks to further the well being of animals throughout the Greater Sacramento Area through his involvement with the R Street Shelter. Of course, as a board member of The People of Sacramento Foundation, Josh is dedicated to fundraising and advocating for any and all other charitable causes associated with the Foundation.
David Garibaldi – Board Member
David Garibaldi is an American performance painter. His specialty is his “Rhythm and Hue” stage act in which he rapidly creates paintings of notable pop and inspirational icons.
Raised in Sacramento, CA, Garibaldi started creating at a young age through art, music, and dance. A turning point in his life was when he was inspired by a high school art teacher to leave graffiti for a more positive path.
Since 2003 Garibaldi has taken live and performance painting to new heights. Some notable events include: Performing at the White House for President Obama. Finalist on America’s Got Talent. Collaborations with brands like Disney, Nike, and opening for acts like Sting and Snoop Dogg.
Now as a committed philanthropist, he has also raised over $4 million dollars for various charities around the world.
