What does the R Street Shelter do?

  • Showcases rescue and shelter pets so more people will want to adopt. We make adoption sexy.
  • Provides concierge adoption services in an elite retail space, making adoption an “experience”.
  • Hosts community events to raise funds that will be awarded to area animal shelters and rescue organizations so they can continue to save lives.
  • Operate youth empowerment camps to support the future pet owners of our community.

Gina is the National Shelter Engagement Director for the Michelson Found Animals Foundation. Her primary focus is increasing the country’s return to owner rate (getting lost pets back home where they belong) by engaging shelters across the nation in finding innovative ways of locating missing pet people. Gina’s background includes managing the Front Street Animal Shelter in Sacramento, California. Her experience leading a municipal, open intake, high volume shelter brings with it an intimate understanding of the challenges faced by animal shelter personnel. Previously, she managed high volume call centers, to include 911 and 311. Her role with the R Street Shelter is to provide guidance and oversight, in order to raise funds that can be shared with animals shelters and rescue groups across the region so that lifesaving can be achieved by all in our community.

Alyssa Huskinson – Chief Development Officer

Alyssa Huskinson is a lover of all things Sacramento – an animal advocate, self-proclaimed foodie, travel addict, and a wannabe stay-at-home dog mom to two boys: Jesse James and Hunter S. Her passion and vision began when she was looking for new and creative ways to fundraise and bring together the community – who she found were individuals who wanted to make a difference like she did, because “everyday is your chance to make this city a little better” (Alex Trujillo). Her priority is to make sure the People of Sacramento continue to grow and make an impact. When she’s not fundraising you can find her at a local coffee shop, at spin with her girls, or in search of the best taco.
